Children’s Poetry Awards at the Chiswick Book Festival

It was a proud day for us all when two of our Invincibles were awarded poetry prizes at the Chiswick Book Festival on Friday 14th September. Well done Eshani De Silva (Y5 First Prize) and Anusha Ruj (Y6 Third Prize).

Thank you to Festival Director Torin Douglas and Lucy Chambers, Children’s Events Co-ordinator for organising this fantastic opportunity for our young writers. We also enjoyed meeting Poet Anne-Marie Fyfe, organiser of Coffee-House Poetry at the Troubadour, and former chair of the Poetry Society and hearing from fellow judge and poet with his entertaining ‘Found’ poem comprised of lines from all the prize-winning poems.

Peace Poems also on display at Senate House

I am also very proud to see three of my pupils’ peace poems have been included in the Senate House Library ‘Writing in Times of Conflict’ exhibition and webpage. You can read the poems by Eshani De Silva, Lano Salah and Anoushka Shetty by visiting: https://www.senatehouselibrary.ac.uk/exhibitions-and-events/exhibitions/writing-times-conflict/resoSeurces/poems-for-peace?fbclid=IwAR3_QjnSk6OU3onuQfsTY0RxgiKiytkFrWxMCH6QYliFsyBSw0LR_KaXTvY

As part of the Writing in Times of Conflict exhibition, you are invited to submit your ‘poems for peace’. Browse through the exhibition items on display and share your poems on any of the topics represented in the exhibition and Senate House will add them to their gallery of poems.

If you would like to submit your poem, please send it to shl.whatson@london.ac.uk.
